FAQs
- How soon will I show up in the search engines?
Typically search engines need a tip off that a site they haven’t previously found exists. Each of the major search engines have pages to notify them of your site. Unfortunately, they typically have a four week backlog of sites to work through. Using the Ginkgo MarketingTM system of publishing a Web site we have seen results in as few as 2 days. You should expect to start showing up for keyword phrases in 30 – 90 days.
- How do I know if my site has been indexed?
The best way to find out if your site has been indexed and which pages are indexed is to enter a search like this site:mywebsite.com this will show you if your site has been indexed and how many pages have been indexed. Typically search engines index one or two pages first and then grow the number of pages from you site in their index over time.
- What makes Ginkgo Marketing unique among your competitors?
We focus on ensuring that you stand the best possible chance of showing up well in the search engines for keyword terms that potential clients use when they are looking for your type of services.
- How long does it take to get my website live?
We’ll have your site live within 14 days of receiving your setup fee, your logo or other graphics you want to supply us and your content.
- If I have an existing site, can I use it with the Ginkgo Marketing system?
This depends on a number of factors. First of all, with many Website services, especially those that provide you with Website templates, you don’t own the design - they do. What you do own is any Web site copy you wrote and most likely your domain name. You should copy and paste any of your writing from the site into separate word documents for each page. This way you can simply cut and paste your writing into your new site. We would ask that you also copy the full address/url of the page e.g. http://www.mywebsite.com/Contact_Us.html and put it at the top of the document.
If you have a Web site that you paid to have designed and you own the rights to the design and images you may be able to use it with Ginkgo Marketing system, however there will be an additional fee to have it converted into the right programming language and ported over to our system.
- Should I backup my site?
Yes, we highly recommend you backup your site. Your site is automatically backed up on the hosting servers, but there’s another reason to backup your site. If tomorrow we have an earthquake in Portland and our entire team parishes your life goes on. With a backup copy of your site all you need to do is sign up for hosting with any company that offers cpanel go to the backup icon and use their tool to browse for your backup copy and upload it. Of course many of the advantages of being a Ginkgo Marketing client will end, but at least you’ll have your site.
- How do I backup my site?
Backing up your site is quite simple. With the login and password you received for administering your account, go to http://www.mywebsite.com/cpanel (replace “mywebsite” with your Web site’s name) and login. Once there you’ll see a backup files icon. Click that and you’ll see the option to backup and save your files to your computer. You must either perform a full backup or backup your site and your database, the important point being not to leave the database out.
- How often should I backup my site?
We recommend you back it up the first time when you have all your copy on and then after that every time you make a major change.
